The Other Side of Silence: Exploring Libby Larsen’s newest workFri., June 4 at 7:30 pm EST
"Come as you are. Pay what you can." Grammy award-winning and one of America’s most performed living composers Libby Larsen joins Scrag co-Artistic Director and soprano Mary Bonhag and Brooklyn Art Song Society Artistic Director and pianist Michael Brofman for an in-depth discussion of her latest work The Other Side of Silence with poetry by George Eliot. Following this conversation, we’ll watch the performance of The Other Side of Silence performed by Bonhag and Brofman from the Brooklyn Art Song Society's concurrently running New Voices Festival. Anderson, and musician friends for an in-depth exploration and contemporary contextualization of Dmitri Shostakovich's Seven Romances on Poems of Alexander Blok, Op. 127. Following this conversation, we'll watch the performance of Seven Romances and Arvo Pärt's Spiegel im Spiegel performed by Mary Bonhag (soprano), Mary Rowell (violin), Emily Taubl (cello), and Paul Orgel (piano) at the UVM Lane Series on February 19, 2021. Handel's Messiah solosSat., Dec. 19 at 7:30 pm
Scrag presents a new and innovative virtual format of the beloved Messiah seasonal tradition. Acclaimed vocalists and pianists including Vermont artists Mary Bonhag (soprano), Erik Kroncke (bass), Mary Jane Austin (piano), and Lynnette Combs (piano), together with Kelly Guerra (mezzo soprano), Daniel McGrew (tenor), and Eric Sedgwick (piano) showcase the rich solos that shape Handel’s masterpiece. Interspersed with these solos will be readings of the choral numbers by members of the VT Philharmonic Chorus. Listen and Watch:
