Spiritual Sounding: Sacred Trees
Scrag Mountain Music in Partnership with Mad River Valley Arts present:
Spiritual Sounding: Sacred Trees
Friday, April 26 at 5-6 pm
Mad River Valley Arts, Waitsfield, 5031 Main St, Unit 2, Waitsfield, VT 05673
Join Evan Premo (multi-instrumentalist/composer and Scrag Mountain Music co-Artistic Director) and Mikahely (Burlington-based singer-songwriter instrumentalist originally from Madagascar) as they improvise on instruments made of trees. Evan and Mikahely will musically explore what trees can teach us about who we are as spiritual beings, and Mikahely will speak about the importance of trees in Madagasy spiritual practice.
Evan's Spiritual Soundings feature improvised loop-based ambient music presented with an intentional theme. The community is invited to participate using any spiritual modality -- meditation, prayer, deep listening, movement etc -- while holding the intention of the session's theme. The hope is that this music and these gatherings will facilitate deep meditative experience which connects audiences to one another and all consciousness.
Space is limited and there are a limited number of chairs available. Attendees are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance and are invited to bring a cushion or mat to sit on.
This program is presented in conjunction with Mad River Valley Arts's exhibition RISE: Trees, Our Botanical Giants (madrivervalleyarts.org) running through April 26. Reception following the Spiritual Sounding.

About our guest artist:
Mikahely is a Burlington-based singer-songwriter guitarist who shares healing sounds inspired by cultural traditions from his native home, Madagascar. Since moving to Vermont in 2018, Mikahely has performed solo, receiving high acclaim for his haunting melodies and technical skills on the guitar and the valiha, a traditional Malagasy instrument crafted from bamboo. Mikahely’s original band, Mika & Davis, comprising two vocalists backed by drums, electric guitar, and bass, drew on traditional basesa rhythms of Madagascar’s east coast, fusing them with jazz and other genres to create a unique style. Mikahely has performed throughout Madagascar, Europe, and across Vermont, and was featured in the documentary Guitar Madagascar. https://www.reverbnation.com/mikahely
